Dai Due Paleo Porn Review
Alison Ver Halen
Alison Ver Halen is a novelist and the resident copywriter and researcher here at Paleo Porn. A life-long foodie, she has found Paleo to be a great way to stay healthy while enjoying delicious food.

In April of 2015 we were in Austin, Texas for Paleo f(x). With so many paleo people in such a foodie town, it was inevitable that we would eat at Dai Due. Rachel from South Beach Primal, Andy & Amanda from The Curious Coconut and Vanessa from Plaid and Paleo all got together with Dave, Jeff, Marla and I and together we enjoyed a paleo feast!

Paleo Restaurant Rating Scale

Restaurant Rating: How good is it? On a scale of 1-5 (5 being the best we've ever had), how good is the restaurant, no matter if it's paleo or not.

Paleo Rating: On a scale of 1-5 (5 being paleo perfection), how paleo is it? A 5 star restaurant will have grass-fed and pasture raised meats, local, organic produce and no peanut oil in sight.

Marla spent our first few days in Austin trying to coordinate this dinner. No one could agree on a time or place and Marla finally made the executive decision to eat at Dai Due. She made reservations and that was that.

Stay for the Food, Come Back for the Butcher Shop

One of the cool things about Dai Due that drew us to it is they have their own butcher shop. From where we sat, we could see the different kinds of meat they were selling. If I lived in Austin I would totally buy all my meat here and probably blow my grocery budget all in one place.

Aside from being delicious, they pride themselves on sourcing solely from local farms in Texas. That means they know exactly how it was raised and what it ate. Their selection includes grass-fed beef, pastured pork, feral hog, free-roaming venison, goat, lamb, chicken, and even quail!

If that’s not enough to get your mouth watering, maybe the string of sausages hung around the meat counter will do it. In addition to their fresh meats, they have an impressive selection of cured meats, including sausages, terrines and pâtés.

And that’s just their butcher shop! That doesn’t even begin to cover all the delicious options they have for dining in!

Went to dinner at Dai Due (@daidue) and ordered the pork neck chop. Was not disappointed! #sofreakinggood 😍🐷😋 #paleo #primal #glutenfree #grainfree #pastureraised #local #porkyporkpork #jerf #justeatrealfood #ATX #PFX15 #PaleoPorn A photo posted by Marla Sarris (@marlasarris) on Apr 28, 2015 at 2:13pm PDT

Start With An Appetizer

Because we went as a large group, we got a few appetizers to share, including their charcuterie plate, which we definitely recommend.

Whether you’re eating in or just grabbing some cold cuts from their butcher shop, you can be sure you’re in for a treat!

Dai Due Pork Confit - Paleo Porn

Marla had a pork neck chop that was bigger than her hand (pictured above, if you don’t believe me). You might find it hard to believe someone could eat a hunk of meat bigger than their hand, but Marla polished off that pork neck. We didn’t hear much from her while she was eating, so I assumed she enjoyed it.

I got the Pork Confit with bone broth. I have to admit the bone broth was a big selling point for me. I normally drink a mug every day or two, but because we were traveling, I had been brothless all week and I figured this was a good opportunity to get some collagen and gelatin.

I did make sure to drink all my bone broth after finishing my pork, but oh man was that pork amazing! It was fatty and juicy and tender and absolutely perfect! If I had had any room left I would have ordered another one!

Take me back to last night's dinner at @daidue in Austin, Texas. The pork confit OMG!!! Absolutely the best. With @plaidandpaleo, @thecuriouscoconut, @paleoporn, @jeffsarris, @mensaltera, @davelatulippe @alisonverhalen

A Seasonal Menu

Their menu is seasonal so depending on when you go, you might not be able to try everything we ordered.

But a seasonal menu is a plus because it means everything is fresh. No matter what you decide to go with, you’re in good hands with the staff at Dai Due!

Spending time with friends devouring delicious food is super important. Even though we may not see each other in person often, we should make it happen more than once a year. #goodtimes #paleo #primal #dinner #PFX15 #ATX #PaleoPorn
