Sandwiches are not paleo so that naturally includes BLT’s. But who cares about the bread, when you can still have the filling? That’s the best part anyway.

This is a super easy recipe that doesn’t require any cooking time (except for the bacon). And everyone can make time to make some bacon. I highly recommend you bake your bacon but use whatever method works best for you.

Save Time, Prepare A Salad

All you have to do is toss the ingredients together in a bowl and eat up! It’s a perfect recipe to make when you’re too hungry to spend much time cooking or if you’re just looking for a quick snack.

This recipe is a great example of an ideal Paleo dish. It’s mostly vegetables with a little bit of meat for protein and flavor.

Despite the common misconception that Paleo is an all-meat diet, that’s just not true. Although it’s delicious and has plenty of nutrients, it just can’t match the anti-oxidant powerhouse that vegetables provide. In addition to numerous vitamins and minerals, vegetables are full of phytochemicals. These chemicals are designed to protect the plant, but they also provide us with loads of health benefits when we eat them, including a nice immune boost.

And who doesn’t love bacon?

Arguably the best part of living the Paleo lifestyle is getting to snub all those vegetarians who are convinced you’re clogging your arteries by eating bacon.

On the contrary, bacon fat is largely saturated and mono-unsaturated fats, both of which are extremely stable, so there’s nothing to worry about. Far from making you fat, eating plenty of fat will help your body process the fat and protein you eat and promotes breaking up fat cells for energy. So if you want to lose fat, you should probably try eating more fat.

Don’t Toss That Healthy Fat

When you make your bacon, be sure to keep your bacon fat! Transfer the hot liquid to a glass container and let it cool before adding the lid and transfering to the fridge. Pull out the bacon fat and fry up some veggies or eggs in the melted goodness and you’ll have bacon-y flavored everything! :)

BLT Salad

BLT Salad

Yield: 4-6 Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups purple cabbage, chopped
  • 1 bunch organic hearts of romaine, sliced
  • 8-10 slices bacon, cooked & sliced
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup Paleo Mayo
  • 1 organic tomato, chopped
  • celery salt, to taste

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl. Toss to combine well.
  2. Plate and serve with a side of extra bacon.
  3. Enjoy! :)
