This offers a number of benefits, including added nutrition, helping the environment (by creating less waste), and providing an affordable meal for you, your family and friends.

Despite the fact our society has recently gotten away from eating animals in their entirety, it used to be common practice.

Somewhere between demonizing fat and subsidizing grains and sugar, we forgot what nutrient powerhouses can be found by eating other parts of the animal.

Rediscover what your ancestors knew by enjoying this recipe for Slow Cooked Beef Neck Bones.

Whatever meat is left on the bones will fall off in the slow cooker, making easy pickings for you. Then you can dig/suck out the marrow to finish off the meal.

Once you’re done, you can reuse the bones to make bone broth and make this a dual purpose dish.

Slow Cooked Beef Neck Bones

Slow Cooked Beef Neck Bones

Yield: 3-4 Servings

Ingredients

  • 4-5lbs beef neck bones
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 4 ribs celery
  • coarse ground sea salt, to taste
  • roasted garlic powder, to taste
  • 1 bunch fresh sage, chopped

Directions

  1. Add beef neck bones, onion and celery to a 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Season with sea salt, garlic powder and scatter with fresh sage over the top.
  3. Cover and cook on high for 7 hours or until beef is falling off the bones tender.
  4. Transfer several bones to a bowl and serve with a side of your favorite vegetable. (Reserve leftover bones to make bone broth.)
  5. Enjoy! :)
