I’m so excited I can’t wait! The big exciting news, you ask, it’s not the fact that Jeff, Dave & I (also known as Spyr Media) are going to SXSWi this year. It’s not the fact that I’ve entered into a Bacon cooking competition. The icing on the cake, the awesome Texas-sized news is….I’m going to be on NBC!
We’ve been excited to return to SXSWi in Austin from the moment we got home after last year’s event. While I was planning this years travels I came across the Austin Bacon TakeDown and you better believe at the mention of bacon I looked a little harder into the details.
Before Valentine’s day Vic Magary retweeted one of Hilah’s tweets mentioning her recipe for How to Steam and Shell a Lobster so of course I had to click the link to read how it’s done. That one link sent me into a multi-hour frenzy of watching the cooking videos on her site, reading her recipes and brainstorming ideas to change some of them and make them Primal…and of course I decided to follow Hilah on Twitter after all that time spent on her site.
A few days later Hilah tweeted about how she’d be judging the Austin Bacon TakeDown and the words Bacon and Austin had me curious since we were heading in that direction. After reading the description, right away I knew I had to be a part of this! Especially since it would be happening while we were in town for this years SXSWi event!
I signed up for the event, got all the details, waited to hear more, bought a cute little hot pink mini-chefs hat and started brainstorming bacon recipes that I’d be able to use as my secret recipe to enter into the competition!
Earlier this week I was caught off guard when an email from Stephanie, a Hormel representative, arrived in my inbox. She wanted to know if I’d be willing to help spread the word about the Bacon TakeDown and appear on NBC for a Sunday morning interview at 8:20 AM and…no brainer…I said YES! How fun is this going to be! I’m super excited to be able to participate in the event let alone help promote it on TV.
If you love bacon as much as we do and the sound of this event makes you want to run and grab tickets right away, you should definitely get your tickets now…especially since last year this event was sold out! Put it on your calendar, here are the details:
- Sunday March 11, 2012
- At Shangri La, 1016 East 6th Street, Austin
- The event will last from 2pm-4pm
- A $10 entry fee will give you access to taste 20 different recipes, all containing bacon
- Just look for the 6’4” guy and you’ll find me (the 4’11” gal with the hot pink hat) at our table and you’ll be able to try my super secret recipe
- Look around and you just may see Dave taking your photo
- And I’d love for you to vote for mine but only if you really enjoy it the most :)
Did I mention the prize is a years worth of bacon supplied from Hormel? How cool is that!! I only hope their idea of a years worth of bacon is the same as mine. ;)
