Wasabi comes from a plant, so it can absolutely be included as part of a Paleo lifestyle. It’s high in carbohydrates, but because of it’s extremely strong flavor, no one is consuming enough wasabi in one sitting to worry about the carbs.
The Health Benefits
As with most plants, wasabi has some definite health benefits. It’s a powerful anti-inflammatory that also happens to have anti-bacterial properties.
Horseradish Masquerading as Wasabi
Although wasabi is most often associated with sushi, the “wasabi” served at most sushi restaurants in America is actually horseradish. That’s OK, because horseradish is closely related to wasabi and is also Paleo.
Even Mark Sisson gave wasabi his seal of approval.
