Galangals are plants, and since the first step to living a healthy Paleo lifestyle is to eat lots of plants, there’s no reason we can’t include galangals.
Galangal is related to ginger, and contains many of the same properties, including antioxidants that can help lower inflammation and boost immune function. It’s a rhizome with stalks that grow underground, and it tastes similar to ginger, but galangal has a more citrusy flavor. Substituting ginger with galangal won’t provide the same flavor profile, but adding some galangal to your homemade salad dressing or curry would probably be a good idea.
