The rutabaga is a root vegetable that originated as a cross between the cabbage and the turnip. This puts rutabaga in the brassica family: a classification of vegetables that are particularly high in sulfur. If you’ve seen Terry Wahls’s TED talk, then you know you need to be sure to eat your sulfur rich vegetables every day.

The Nutritional Benefits of Brassicas

Brassicas in particular have shown possible antioxidant and anticancer properties (source). These means that they are extremely helpful when in maintaining a strong immune system and avoiding all of the chronic diseases that are linked to inflammation, including diabetes, Alzheimer’s and heart disease.
